STUDY AND SURVEY ON THE GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS OF COAL FIRE IN NORTHERN CHINA

Spontaneous combustion of coal is a common phenomenon in many coal fields in North China, which causes losses of coal resources, damages coal mine facilities and pollutes the environment. Use of the remote sensing technique may be a good way to locate the area of coal fire distribution, monitor dynamicaly the variation, study geological environment in which coal fire was produced, evaluate coal fire degree and reveal secret of coal fire so as to work out programs of hazards reduction and prevention and to give good proposals to fire treatment. Remote sensing investigation of 10 years shows there are 86 coal mines in which coal fires occurred and firing areas are more than 100, between Longitude E74° and El35° and to the north of the Latitude N35 ° . The yearly loss of coal was estimated 10 million tons and a number of mining accidents occurred. The paper describes the results of application and the study of the remote sensing technology for coal fires.
