Owing to the breakthrough in understanding of petroleum geology and the development of composite exploration techniques, a large-scale low-permeability oil province with reserves of more than 10 × 10~8t has been proved in the Sanzhao area. The success rate of exploration wells and proved reserves of per exploration well were increased from 40% and 44 × 10~4t in 1986 to 80% and 236 × 10~4t in 1995. Remarkable economic benefits have been achieved. The experience of low-permeability reservoirs' exploration in the Sansei area shows that to set up a scientific exploration program, fully understand petroleum geological features of the area and develop suitable exploration technique series are the most important for attaining efficient exploration.
