The Turpan-Hami (Tuha) basin extends east-westerly in the east portion of Xingjiang Uyger Autonomous Region, being separated by the mountains with the Junggar basin to the north and with the Tarim basin to the south and covering an area of 5.3 km2. Since commercial oil flow was obtained from the Sanjianfang group of the Middle Jurassic in Taichan 1, the first exploratory well drilled in Jannary of 1989, two Jurassic oil gas accumulation zones, Qiuling and Wenjisang, and a series of hydrocarbon-bearing structures have been discovered in the basin (Fig. 1). The study shows that the hydocarbon of these oil fields has a close relationship with coal measures. This important discovery has greatly promoted the hydrocarbon exploration of the Jurassic in NW China and enriched the theory of continental hydrocarbon formation.
