Tarim block drifted from south hemisphere and did not move into north hemisphere until the early stage of late Palaeozoic. Along with the northward movement, the rotation also occured. The block underwent rapid northward movement twice. One is from S_2-D_2 to D_3, with latitudes from 10° N to 19° N, a distance of 900 km, speed of 1.67 cm/ a and rotation angle of 12.5° ; the other is from P_2 to T, with latitudes from 30.1° N to 34.6° N, speed of 1.2 cm/ a, and rotation angle of 39.3° . It also underwent a rapid southward movement from J_2 to J_3-K_1, with a distance of 550 km and speed of 0.84 cm/ a. Since Late Cretaceous it gradually moved northward in a speed of 0.4~ 0.5 cm/ a. The evolution of Tethys structural domain plays an important role in controlling the evolution of Tarim fault basin-depression basin-inland basin.
