This paper discusses the handling of device failures that have occurred in an advanced life support(ALS)system that could cause disruptions in the circulation of substances within the system.The procedures described here are based on techniques proposed in a previous study.In our study simulation,five devices were randomly chosen to show failures,and the order in which the failures were designated for repair was automatically determined.Although this sometimes resulted in extremely dangerous conditions,the basic procedure was determined to be useful in handling device failures,and the guidelines for determining the order of repairs were found to be appropriate.Future research will examine ways to improve safety related to the extremely dangerous situations identified herein.
