摘要

Several prior investigations have documented deformation-induced rotation of β-Si_3N_4 grains resulting in texture and property anisotropy. We have evaluated elasticity and fracture toughness effects of preferred orientation in these materials. In addition, there are strong implications on friction and wear properties of these materials. Comparisons to other experimental results and the implications of these results on property modeling are discussed.
