This study is mainly focused on the initiation damage process in nodular cast iron. The evolution of the percentage of nodules which experienced decohesion is determined in terms of critical stress. The nodules distribution is obtained using a Voronoi tesselation method and linked to the damage initiation. The FEM calculations allow to determine the stresses interaction effect between nodules. Finally it is proposed that the progressive decohesion process mainly depends on the nodules distribution. Furthermore, an interfacial critical stress of 650 MPa is determined so as to account for the experimental kinetics of the decohesion process.
