A simple optical method for measuring currents at high voltages with an example of use on a coronating electrode in air

An inexpensive system is described for measuring currents up to a few amperes with a resolution of 0.1μA in high-voltage conductors. The system uses an optical-fibre link which provides excellent electrical isolation. An application toelectrostatic precipitators is described.
