In this paper, we report a 10-Gb/s repeaterless communication system with a transmission distance of 411 km. Previously, pre-chirping techniques [1] and dispersion compensating fiber [2] have been demonstrated for 204 km and 280 km transmission over standard single mode fiber, respectively. Using dispersion shifted fiber and return-to-zero modulation for Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) suppression, a distance of 300 km has been reported [3]. In our experiments, the transmission distance is increased by using low-loss silica-core fiber (+20 ps/nm-km) combined with dispersion compensation in the receiver. Furthermore, remotely pumped post- and pre-amplifiers are employed to achieve a maximum power budget of 81.0 dB.
