摘要

Repeaterless transmission of 10 Gbit/s NRZ at 1550 nm over dispersive standard fiber links of typically 0-100 km length is assessed. A new approach is used: transmission experiments with integrated electro-absorption modulators, in combination with computer simulations. Investigated are the interplay of self phase modulation, initial phase modulation, signal bandwidth and dispersion. A maximum transmission distance of 150 km is measured in agreement with the simulations, limited by dispersion and self phase modulation only.
