The energy transfer processes are studied in Na_2O-B_2O_3 and NaCl-Na_2O-B_2O_3 glasses doubly doped with mercury-like (ML) and rare-earth (RE) ions. The results of the fluorescence investigations and lifetime measurements indicate that ML ions (Tl~+, Ge~(2+)) may form complexes with halogen ions and RE ions (Gd~(3+), Tb~(3+)). Energy transfer Tl~+→Gd~(3+), Tl~+→Tb~(3+), Ge~(2+)→Tb~(3+) occurs with extremely high efficiency in the complexes containing both activators. The mechanism and parameters of energy transfer in these donor-acceptor pairs are determined.
