An Experimental Flight Management System has been developed for research in Air Traffic Management. A principally new Junction is the negotiation with air traffic control concerning a conflict free four dimensional lube through a digital datalink. The system is described and some results of early flight trials with one of NLR's research aircraft are shown. This concept could eventually lead to a direct ground control of the aircraft through datalink. Many barriers however of various kind are effectively preventing this concept to happen in the near future.
