In the three years from 1992 to the end of 1994,Shanghai has built a Hybrid Optical-Coax (HFC) network and the subsrcibe; number of the network stands in the forefront of. the world. Shanghai has completed the CATV network connection in 14 districts and one suburban district in the whole city, and the number of the subsrcibers over the CATV network is over 1.2 million. It is estimated that at the end of this century, the number of the subsribers over the CATV network will be over 2 million.lt is seldom seen both in China and oversea that the building speed of the network is so fast and the scale of the network is so large. The scale of the CATV network in Shanghai is the largest CATV network in Asia. This paper expounds the design and the network topological structure of Shanghai CATV network, and expounds the technical data and specification of the transmission equipment and optical fiber and connector used over the CATV network.Meantime the paper also introduces the monitor system of the optical transmission network. Finally, the paper expounds the sythetical utilization of the optical transmission network.
