A systematic approach to the design and operation of ozone contactors for assured disinfection has not been developed by the water industry. For primary disinfection based on the SWTR CxT concept, contactors ahve been designed based on pilot tests and reules of thumb by estimating the combination of the dissolved ozone concentration and contact time in the different cells of the contactor.
