This review of the most important effects on the microstructure on fatigue concentrates on the confirmation and precisiosn which are brought by recent publications on the subject, thus supplementing an earlier and more complete review. The effect which are considered are those of the stacking fault energy, of precipates distinguishing between shearable and unshearable ones, of inclusions of the grain size. Mention is also made about structural effects in two phase alloys and about deformation-induced martensitic transformation.
