Characteristics are presented of the secondary electron emission from the dielectric surface due to strong UV irradiation in air. It is found that when a plane electrode parallel to the dielectric surface is not irradiated by UV, the emission current is zero. However, when the surface is irradiated, a current of the order of 10/sup -10/ A is observed. It decreases gradually with time, and it reaches a stabilized value after 10 min.
