Burstlike events are produced by either withdrawing near-wall fluid from four minute holes separated in spanwise direction or injecting water in. With hydrogen bubble wire visualization, the different effects on turbulence structure of the two kinds of disturbances are observed, which can stimulate the ejection and sweep in bursting process, respectively. Conclusions can be reached that the formation and development of bursts are dominated by flow patterns very near the. wall. According to pricinple of momentum transfer a simple explanation for the mechanism of burst is given.
