Using radioisotope tracer method to measure velocity of cotton transported by pnuematic has some advantages such as noncontact measurement, high sensitivety. In our experiment, we have got more than six thousands data and fourty curves in six different size pipes. (1) TSC-1 Radioisotope tracer velocity Meter which is used to measure velocity of cotton transported by pneumatics is stable and reliable., as well as easy to operate, its measuring precition can meet experimental need. (2) Surface of material was labeled by radioisotope In-113m as tracer which is reliable and easy to operate. Each experiment only uses a few amount of In-113m (< 1 mci). Its half decay time is only 7 days, so there is no danger of radiation pollution. (3) This experiment took two years. During that period tempereture was changed from 2C to 30C, environmental moisture was up to 80%, but the relative curves we heve got have good regularity and consistency. Our experiment proved that the radioisotope tracer method for velocity measurement of solid materials transported by pneumatics is a new, powerful, useful and promissing technique in the pneumatic transportation research field.
