In this paper we present performance evaluation of a conflict-free i.e. token-passing protocol for local area bus networks. Tokenpassing in bus networks is a technique in which active stations connected to the bus, form a logical ring. The stations in a logical ring are assigned an ordered sequence of addresses. A control packet, known as a token, regulates the right of access of all stations to the transmission medium. Number of stations attached to the - bus, total offered traffic and service discipline (exhaustive or non-exhaustive) are some of the parameters that affect the throughput and delay performance of a token-passing bus network. In this paper, we investigate some of these effects using simulation technique. Simulation results are presented in a variety of forms so as to illustrate some interesting outcomes of this study.
