For establishing key technology of maritime satellite communication system for small vessels and aeronautical satellite communication system and for research on general mobile satellite communications,Experimental Mobile Satellite System using Engineering Test Satellite-V(ETS-V/EMSS)[1]is dwveloped in Japan.Development of L-band transponder was carried out by Radio Research laboratories(RRL).The transponder principally consits of GaAs FET High Power Amplifiers(HPA,Po=24W),Surface Acoustic Wave Filters(SAW,BW=3MHz)and Oven Controlled X'tal Oscillators(OCXO,s=5 ×10-7).High efficiency(19%) and good linearity (C/IM3=31 dB) were achieved by newly developed FET HPA.The satellite will be launched in 1987.
