A ROUTING DATA BASE FOR THE EQUAL ACCESS LOCAL EXCHANGE NETWORK

As an outcome of divestiture,all Bell Operating Companies are required to provide equal access local exchange routing information to all interexchange carriers.Acting as an agent for the Bell Operating Companies,Bell Communications Research has developed and now maintains a centralized database called the Routing Data Base System.This data base contains Bell Operating Companies" and Independent Telephone Companies" local exchange routing and rate center data such as Switching Entities,Destination Codes (NPA/COC),Rate Center/Localltles and Local Access Transport Areas (LATA) for the North American Numbering Plan,excluding Canada.It provides reports on a by LATA basis and it identifies recent and future changes planned within the local exchange networks with a typical lead time of three to six months.The Routing Data Base System provides accurate and up-to-date routing and rate center information through on-line access and batch reports.
