In this paper we introduce a new nonlinear adaptive equalizer which uses for input signal and impulse response of forward and feedback filter a Delta Modulation (DM) and Delta Sigma Modulation (DSM) incremental encoding with binary (+1,-1) or ternary (+1,0,-1)representation,respectively.DM-based approach appears to be promising for implementation simplicity,as no multiplications or multi-bit additions are required neither for filtering nor for adaptation. In addition,a simple coding allows to remove the equalizer feedback section. The system performance is comparable with that of the corresponding non-incremental equalizer.
