A multi-beam satellite with a satellite switched time division multiple access (SS/TDMA) system,provides the flexibility of inter-connecting the satellite beams within one TOMA time frame.In this paper practical application of the traffic assignment algorithms to the problem of SS/TOMA traffic assignment in the INTELSAT VI satellite System is presented.INTELSAT Ⅵ is a multi-beam satellite equipped with dynamic switches to allow SS/TOMA operation in two of its transmission channels.In practice the objective is not only to minimize the maximum time duration of each switching state to achieve the best efficiency,but also to minimize the equipment required for each earth station operating in SS/TDMA which is ignored in most of the theoretical solutions to this problem.The traffic assignment problem is formulated,a procedure to solve the problem and demonstrate the results through two examples is presented,one with INTELSAT Ⅵ in the Atlantic Ocean Region configuration and the other with INTELSAT Ⅵ in the Indian Ocean,Region configuration.
