摘要

Very-high-capacity digital systems for long-haul trunk transmission will be very effective in accommodating the increased demand for such services as telephone, data,facsimile, and broad band video signals. In this paper, optical transmitter configurations for such systems are discussed based on the spectral behavior of the optical sources and single-mode fiber dispersion. A repeater circuit that uses high speed monolithic integrated circuits is then investigated. Performance of multi/demultiplexing circuits that employ monolithic ICs is also described. The results of experiments demonstrate the feasibility of realizing a very high speed 1.6Gb/s optical transmission system.
