QUERYING REAL TIME RELATIONAL DATA BASES

摘要

A relational data base management system has been implemented at INRIA on MULTICS. The main objective of the system is to run on a multi-microcomputer. In first part of the paper, we summarize the architecture of the system and describe in some details the query processing strategy. Measurements of performances are then presented showing the inadequecy of such a relational system for real time applications. In second part of the paper, we examine several strategies for improving performances, such as query precompilation, parallelism, relations in main memory, concrete views. We finally come out with the concept of temporal view which appears to be very attractive for certain classes of real time database applications mainly in the case of distributed databases.
