Economic improvements in the production of electrical insulating sleevings

Insulating sleevings are a key component of total insulation systems for all types and sizes of electrical plant from cookers to turbo-generators. The unit cost is however small and consequently sleevings have not merited much attention by insulation engineers. It is hoped that this article will therefore be of general interest to insulation engineers and of special interest to sleevings manufacturers. The paper describes accepted and well proven production techniques based on braided yarn and goes on to outline developments of these techniques to give cost effective production improvements by knitting the yarn.
