Structural locking for concurrency control in data base systems

摘要

This paper identifies concurrency constraints and fundamentals of locking. A new locking mecha nism, called structural locking, is proposed. This technique allows precise specification on the locked objects and thus can afford maximal concur rency via the realization of minimal locking. The set-oriented conflict test associated with the mechanism is simple and effective. Furthermore, when associative memories are in common use in data base machines, structural locking has unique characteristics to take advantage of this architecture.
