The New Heavy- and Medium Duty BharatBenz Truck Generations for India’s BSVI Emission Legislation

The Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) exhaust gas legislation in India came into effect on April 1,2020. From this point on, only BSVI homologated vehicles could be registered in India.India has therefore made the leap from BSIV to BSVI in just 3 years. So far, this isunprecedented worldwide and poses special challenges for the manufacturers. BharatBenz,a brand of Daimler Trucks AG, developed Profit Technology+ especially forthis.BharatBenz's new BSVI-compliant portfolio includes a range of vehicles with permissiblegross weights from 10 to 55 tons, setting new standards in terms of fuel economy,safety and driver comfort. BharatBenz BSVI vehicles are convincing due to their reliabilityand connectivity, which is unrivaled in the Indian market.The ´SCR only´ engine technology developed by BharatBenz for BSIV has been customizedfor the BSVI emissions standard and adapted to the special needs of the Indianmarket. The future tightening of the BSVI legislation, which will be introduced inIndia from April 1, 2023 and which prescribes emission measurements in vehicles(PEMS), was taken into account in the development.In the heavy commercial vehicle segment, the OM906 engine series was replaced bythe OM926 used worldwide by Daimler Trucks AG.In the medium-heavy segment, the 4D34i has been optimized and provided with aglobal, however specifically tailored ´2-box´ exhaust After-treatment for the BSVIstandard.Extended maintenance intervals and improved fuel economy compared to BSIV helpguarantee low total cost of ownership (TCO), despite stringent compliance with BSVIexhaust gas legislation.
