A new dynamic parameter - suction cavitation number σ{sub}(mp) is suggested for describing suction ability of the medium consistency pulp pump based on the detailed experimental observations on the cavitation behaviors arisen around the booster blades as well as on the flow patterns within the suction pipe and some theoretical analyses. Its acceptability is proven by the present series experimental results conducted under the various rotational speeds, flow rates and openings of the constant pressure-relief-valve.
