Assessment of new statistical models to determine foundry temperatures in region L+Fe3C in the iron-carbon phase diagram

The analyzed region has a lower thermal limit of 1148 °C and an upper limit of 1227 °C, however, the range of the carbon content is 2.37% and its limits are between 4.30% and 6.67%, respectively. To estimate the foundry temperatures an iterative procedure is carried out, this estimation method becomes complex when it is required to know an intermediate value in the temperature range, as in special foundries. This paper presents statistical models which can be used to know any temperature value included in the analyzed region, without the need to carry out the iterative procedure, the models are polynomial and linear, with positive determination and correlation coefficients, valid for predicting temperatures and significantly lower uncertainties compared to the iterative method.
