Future Metro bottle-neck – how will optical networks cost-effectively deliver anticipated 5G services?

Summarising the EU Metro-Haul project, we assess the impact of end-to-end orchestration for 5G, showing that a static control plane is essential to enable instantiation of myriad applications; but for the most cost-effective management of resources, a responsive, dynamic orchestration will be required.
