Cost Effective Automated Technique for Oil Condition Monitoring of Transformers

Transformers are widely used in power transmission and distribution and is the central heart of grid station and power systems. Windings and core of transformers are dipped in insulating oil that acts as both coolant and insulator. But as time passes, oil gets degraded and must be tested regularly. Dielectric breakdown measurement is important for getting an insight into the health condition of transformers. Proposal of a smart method which can perform an automated oil testing for transformers seems to be favorable. This paper proposes the solution in terms of fully automated and remotely controlled oil testing with the help of solid-state breakdown voltage tester comprising of inverter and rectifier systems to increase the efficiency and reliability of the overall procedure. This is on-load testing and can be controlled remotely and wirelessly. Diagnosis shows that the proposed method emerges to be cost effective solution which is appropriate for oil condition monitoring of transformer on remote basis. All the circuitry involved in the proposed strategy is designed with combination of Multisim and PSpice softwares, then cost effectiveness is validated by performing comparative analysis among the proposed and already available methods.
