In distribution system studies, Distributed Generation (DG) has become an important entity due to the power demand. The DG provides advantages such as improving the voltage profile, power loss reduction, increased power reliability, stability, and quality. The major issue that needs consideration is the islanded operation of the system. Islanding is a state in which part of the distribution network is disconnected from the grid and the loads are energized by the local DG units. The detection and operation of the island find greater significance in the modern distribution system. This paper proposes a method of islanding detection by using bounded frequency and voltage variation limits through a V-F (Voltage-Frequency) index to detect the islanding. The proposed method has been tested on a 36 system and the results obtained are promising.
