Comparison of Different Control Methods for Maximum Power Point Tracking of Solar and Wind Energy

In this paper, several DC-DC converter control strategies have been implemented in distributed renewable energy harnessing system for coping with the energy shortage and environmental crisis. Double-loop controls, one being with voltage in outer loop and current in inner loop and the other being current in outer loop and voltage in inner loop are presented and compared. Terminal properties are investigated for solar panel and wind turbine+PMSG machine+AC/DC rectifier. Reference voltages and currents are constructed in look-up tables for control. Both methods are adopted to maximally track the power output from solar panel and wind turbine with reference to look-up tables. In the end, this paper concludes that both two methods can achieve the same successful maximum power output for both solar and wind energy harnessing.
