Remaining useful life (RUL) prediction is of paramount significance in reliability field and is regarded as an important procedure in prognostics and health management (PHM). However, literature focused on the derivation of RUL is still insufficient because of its complexity. Motivate by this gap, in this paper, closed-form expressions of RUL for products with typical distributions, including exponential distribution, truncated exponential distribution, Weibull distribution and exponentiated Weibull distribution (EW), have been derived and corresponding properties have also been analyzed. To verify the derivations, a simulation method has also been provided for the comparisons in numerical study. The results show that the analytical solutions require less computation time without sacrificing the accuracy performance.
