Quality site survey data is a key component to all water and wastewater design projects, which can become quite costly and time consuming as the scale of the project increases. For Alliance Regional Water Authority's (Alliance Water) phase IB program, which includes approximately 90 mi of water transmission lines, aerial surveying is a great fit to achieve cost savings and reduce schedule risk. For the treated pipeline segment A of the phase 1B system, which consists of approximately 17 mi of 48-in. water line, a fixed wing aerial survey is performed in conjunction with traditional surveying methods to optimize efficiency. Various aerial surveying vehicles are discussed in addition to available instrumentation that can be utilized for data collection.
