Connecting large blocks of renewable energy, especially wind and solar generation, to the transmission systems may degrade the power quality of these systems, increasing their harmonic distortion. Increased harmonic distortion in transmission systems and the appearance of subharmonics may be related to maltripping of protective relays. This paper presents the first results of the continuous power quality monitoring system for transmission systems that will make it possible to correlate the performance of the protection relays with the power quality present at the network. The implementation of this system follows the standards for future digital substations and the main recommendations for power quality parameters assessment.
