Development of the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan for the City of Alameda, CA

Stakeholder engagement was a key component of developing the CARP and will continue to play a vital role in its future success. Through activities including community input sessions, task force and other stakeholder group meetings, the project team learned early on that it was essential to carefully (and frequently) vet details of proposed actions with the subject matter experts at the City. While the community engagement activities held proved instrumental, additional engagement would have been ideal. There are significant start-up costs this planning effort, given the background knowledge required (e.g. understanding the relationship between mitigation and adaptation). More opportunities for community education as well as feedback will foster public support this work, improve community buy-in, and equitable distribution of project resources moving forward.
