An Analysis Method of Rollover Stability for Heavy Trucks

A four-degree-of-freedom system dynamics equation of heavy trucks is established based on vehicle theory and force analysis. In this equation, steering wheel angle and vehicle longitudinal velocity are input variables, and vehicle lateral velocity, yaw rate, roll angle, and roll angle rate are output variables. The dynamic model is solved by using state space theory; time domain simulation analysis is carried out by using Matlab software. Rollover stability for heavy truck is analyzed and evaluated under the simulation of different steering wheel angle input by the analysis of lateral acceleration and root locus of yaw rate and roll angle. The results show that rollover stability for heavy truck can be evaluated effectively by numerical analysis of lateral acceleration and root locus analysis. The simulation results give a method of roll analysis for heavy truck in turning conditions, and also can provide some technical support and useful reference to driving safety.
