In order to study the influence of the shield and insulation structure on the electric field distribution of catenary cantilever insulators, Solidworks and finite element software COMSOL were combined to establish a three-dimensional model of the catenary, and the influence of shield structure and other parameters on the electric field distribution along the surface of the insulator and the air area was simulated and analyzed. The simulation results show that the electric field improvement effect of the catenary insulator is obvious after installing the shield; as the radius R and the cover depth H of the shield increase, the electric field intensity of the metal fittings and the nearby insulator shed decreases significantly on the high voltage side. Then based on the simulation results, the recommended parameter values of the shield are given. The research results in this paper can provide a basis for the optimization of the catenary cantilever insulator structure.
