Application of Signal Processing in the Detection of Urinary Dysfunction: A Review on Different Techniques

Urinary dysfunction is a disorder that may occur due to the pathological conditions like spinal cord injury, neurological disorders or because of the non-pathological reasons like aging. There are several methods for the detection of urinary dysfunction. Urodynamics testing is the medical procedure for the detection of urinary dysfunction. It analyses conditions like, frequent urination, incontinence, infections and obstructions in urinary lower tract or bladder muscle hyperactivity. The urodynamic studies evaluate the pressure flow relationship between the bladder and urethra and give the functional information about lower urinary tract. It can be done either by some simple observations or by some precise measurements using sophisticated equipments. In this paper different methods for the detection of urinary dysfunction are explained. And it describes how signal processing can be applied to improve the result for better diagnosis.
