The article concerns the formulation and description of the basic assumptions applied to mathematical modeling of the processes of solid-phase and liquid-phase contact formation between metal powder particles of elementary two-tier cell during selective laser sintering (SLS). These basic assumptions are based on the well-known ideas about the interaction of light flux with metal surface, as well as about the interaction in the contact zone of surface potentials created by a double electric layer. An algorithm for converting a powder medium consisting of particles of metal alloys of various shapes and sizes into an equivalent analogue consisting of monospherical particles of a dispersed phase is presented. Basic assumptions applied to mathematical modeling are recommended to be used in the simulation of direct metal printing by SLS.
