As teachers struggle to present science learning in an interactive and meaningful format, innovative programs are emerging. Ground Truth Studies has provided a framework and stimulus for the development of "real science" activities such as 1) the EarthBase program where students gather and share weather data, 2) the Balloon Lift Program where students use a weather baloon as a platform for remote sensing of their campuses, 3) the Lawncare Curriculum where students learn how they directly effect their environment, and 4) the HOPE Symposium where students present their research to other students. These programs try to resolve the paradoxical issue of whether science education should focus on content or process by using the problem solving approach to experience, construct, understand, and respond to content. The science and business community must recognize and encourage these programs, so that we will have the creative, effective workforce required in the future.
