Throughout the last century, successive governments have reactedto health and safety matters by issuing laws specific to a particulartask, occupation or industry. These laws are in themselves quitedetailed pieces of legislation and this has allowed many employers tosuccessfully argue that the laws did not apply to their particularworkplace or workforce on a number of occasions.
