This paper presents a computer-aided design and development of ahigh performance, passive temperature compensated permanent magnettorquer used in a dynamically tuned gyroscope (DTG). In the new schemearrived at using finite element analysis, the direct leakage pathbetween two permanent magnets in the torquer is primarily made use ofalong with the conventional shunt compensation in an optimum way, whichresulted in complete temperature compensation over an operatingtemperature range from 0° C to 70° C, even though the airgap iscomparatively larger. Valuable inferences on positioning of temperaturecompensating alloy in a permanent magnet circuit are also given. Thetest results confirm the validity of the finite element model and alsothe high performance of the developed permanent magnet torquer
