WBK-BVS in Dortmund is the only authorized testing station in WestGermany for firedamp and dust explosion protection of group II (surface)equipment. In addition to testing and certification activities, andcollaboration in national and international committees for theunification of standards, research work is also carried out. In thispaper, the authors present some of the results of this research
