Italian experience on hazardous area classification and selectionof electrical installations and apparatus in industrial plants

The authors give an outline of the Italian Standards relevant tohazardous area classifications and selection of safety electricalequipment and of the present technical trends in this field. Furtherconsiderations are reported, resulting from CESI experience in theactivities of area classification, verifications on plants andlaboratory testing on safety equipment. In this connection particularattention is paid to the problem of the evaluation of the safety levelof electrical plants in hazardous areas during their operating life. Tothis purpose the verification of compliance of aged equipment withsafety standard may be necessary
