The submersible motor is traditionally used for driving a directlycoupled centrifugal pump when submerged in the pumped liquid. Althoughthe main field of application is deep well water pumping, theavailability of electric motors which are capable of reliably operatingunderwater has led to increasing numbers of other applications.
