This paper addresses the survivability escalation issues inmulti-layers transport networks. Firstly, we presents oriented-failuresand oriented-traffic escalation mechanisms. Then, we present a newsurvivability escalation strategy and capacity optimization mathematicsmodel for SDH-based ATM transport networks, which addresses thedifficult problem for resources sharing pool (RSP) among differentlayers restoration mechanisms. The proposed model can be easily extendedfor other types of multi-layer networks, such as WDM-based ATM networksor WDM-based SDH networks or WDM-based IP networks
