The HiperLAN/2 (H/2) standard developed by the EuropeanTelecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) provides high bit ratecommunication in the 5 GHz frequency band. Besides an infrastructurebased networking mode, the profile for home environments follows theconcept of a one-hop ad hoc network topology. Each so-called singlesubnet is coordinated by a central controller whereby all H/2 homedevices are capable of this function. In order to improve efficiency,direct link (DiL) communication among the home devices is recommended.In contrast to conventional up- and downlink operation, this mode ismore robust in case of topology changes. The potentialities of DiLconnectivity have been investigated in this paper not only for thewell-known one-hop configuration, but also for the perspective ofmultihop ad hoc networks. The latter are made possible only by amultiple-frequency forwarding technique presented as well
